I received an SMS and email from firstname.lastname@example.org, saying that I am one of the 20 lucky applicants that have qualified to take an English exam this coming weekend as a pre-employment exercise. Because a lot of people have been taking advantage of nurses and caregivers here in the Philippines, I can't help myself from becoming very pessimistic about offers that say they can help you find a good job abroad without having to spend any cent or what so ever.
I was somehow hopeful that everything they said in the email was true so I decided to do my own investigation. First, I googled the name of the company. I found out the company really does exist. Unfortunately, this fact is still not enough to prove they were authentic.
Next, I tried browsing my sent items. I was trying to see if I really did send them my resume. Upon reviewing, I discovered that I never came across their ads.
As detailed and cunning as their offer may seem, it gave me more reason to not believe what their saying. Everything was too good to be true. I think what really gave them away was the fact that they're requiring the applicants to attend a mandatory english exam that they say, NOBODY FAILS. Why would an employer promise you something like that??! In addition, the only credible English exams are the IELTS and TOEFL. If they had really seen my resume, they should've known that I already passed the IELTS. Why will I have to take another exam that I've only heard of just now?
Aside from that, their payment method raised more questions. They do not do cash on delivery transactions. Instead, you can only send your payment for the English exam though LBC (courier).
So, to my dear colleagues, please don't jump on the idea too quickly. Think rational and investigate. Make sure you only give out informations and cash to reputable recruitment agencies that are accredited by POEA. Please bear in mind that they will say anything just to convince you. Don't be a victim.

Language Testing System which is a requirement by the employer &
British Embassy before working in any European Country (done)

or pay anytime the International English Language Testing System
fee at our accredited payment centers (first step)
Attend the 2-day International English Language Testing System
(June 12 & 13, 2010 9am-5pm), get the required certificate,
orientation with the employer (June 12, 2010 9:00-10:00 AM) &
signing of employment contract with interview with the employer
(June 13, 2010 4:00-5:00 PM)
After finishing the 2 day International English Language Testing
System, receiving the required certificate, orientation with the
employer & signing of employment contract, you can now submit the

International English Language Testing System fee is 3,000.00
